Specialist Subjects
At Red Hill Consolidated School, our Mathematics curriculum follows the Victorian Curriculum, enhanced by a researched-based, developmental approach that meets each child at their point of need. This ensures all students experience success and make continuous progress in their mathematical learning.
Japanese
Sensei Briggs
ブリッグス先生
The Japanese curriculum at Red Hill Consolidated School immerses the students in both cultural and language experiences. It is integral that the students learn and develop understandings surrounding language itself, but simultaneously develop their awareness and understandings of Japanese culture as the two concepts are deeply intertwined. All areas of the L.O.T.E Japanese curriculum are underpinned by the Contemporary Learning Experience (CLE) pedagogical approach for teaching and learning.
Music & Performing Arts
Mrs Caitlin Sullivan
The Performing Arts program provides a 50 minute session each week for all students from a room with a lovely outlook onto our school oval. During class, students learn to play a variety of instruments with the music area being extremely well resourced with sets of keyboards, guitars, ukuleles and percussion instruments. Students are provided with opportunities to sing, explore a variety of music genres and to learn about the role that music plays in different cultures around the world with a focus on our First Nations peoples. Performing Arts also provides students with the opportunity to explore elements of drama and dance. This space is a safe place for students to be brave, to try new things, is inclusive and it provides an opportunity for students to be creative.
Performing arts helps to develop:
Confidence and Self-Esteem; to be creative, innovative, to demonstrate body awareness, expressive skills and to explore and celebrate human experience, take risks and challenge their own creativity.
Performance Skills, Knowledge and Understanding; to apply, analyse the elements, processes, styles and techniques, choreograph, listen, improvise, compose and respond with intent and purpose to engage audiences and create meaning.
Appreciative and Artistic knowledge for Arts Practices; across global communities, cultures and traditions; enjoyment and achievement, understanding inter-arts relationship, historical contexts and respect through exploring and playing roles, imagining situations, actions and ideas for arts practices.
Science
Mrs Kristy Trewin
Students engage in weekly science lessons, exploring Chemical, Physical, and Earth & Space Sciences, while Biological Sciences are covered in Sustainability classes. Learning progresses from sensory observations in junior years to critical thinking and the scientific method in senior years.
Key topics include:
Earth & Space Sciences – Weather patterns, celestial movements, and the solar system.
Physical Sciences – Forces, motion, and energy.
Chemical Sciences – Mixtures, reactions, and properties of matter.
Lessons combine theory and hands-on investigations, with discovery tables showcasing models and experiments across year levels. Curiosity and inquiry drive our science learning, emphasising that science is more than just experiments—it's an exciting way to explore the world!
Each year, Science Week highlights a special theme, with student science captains leading activities. In 2023, the theme was Innovation: Powering Future Industries, focusing on advancements in AI and technology.

Sustainability
Meredith Hyams
Introduced in 2023, Environmental Sustainability empowers students to become environmentally aware citizens through hands-on learning in our natural school grounds and Garden Centre.
Aligned with the Biological Sciences and Geography curriculums, lessons explore:
Biodiversity & Conservation – Understanding local ecosystems, native flora and fauna, and sustainability challenges.
Waste Management & Food Production – Learning responsible consumption and environmental impact.
First Nations Knowledge – Exploring cultural connections to land and sustainability.
Students engage with local experts and community groups, gaining the knowledge and confidence to create a positive environmental legacy for future generations.
Visual Art
Mr Dillon Milenkovic
The Visual Arts program at RHCS nurtures creativity, imagination, and artistic skills in a supportive and engaging environment. Students explore a variety of mediums including drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, clay, textiles, and digital media. They also learn to communicate through art, respond to artworks, and appreciate well-known artists.
Students attend weekly 45-minute art sessions, with opportunities to participate in small art groups, school projects, and exhibitions such as the Red Hill Show and Art Red Hill.
Our spacious and well-equipped Art Room is a hub of creativity, where student artworks are proudly displayed throughout the school and shared on social media.
